Niskayuna’s International Scholars Program looks to bring students from around the world into our high school and community. The International Scholars Program allows Niskayuna students to experience all the diversity of a truly international student population and allow selected Niskayuna families to share their home life with student visitors for an entire academic school year.
In order to support the efforts of host families, the Niskayuna Central School District will provide interested families with a monthly stipend of $600 for each F-1 student they welcome to their home. This stipend is intended to assist families in covering the expenses of hosting such as room, board, transportation and entertainment. All international students will be placed in approved host family homes for the entire academic school year. As part of federal regulations, J-1 students attend Niskayuna High School tuition-free, therefore, host families who host J-1 students do not receive a monetary stipend.
Host families must complete the following steps in order to take part in the International Scholars Program:
- Complete the host family application
- Sign the criminal background check authorization release
- Agree to and complete the host family orientation
- Provide proper supervision to the international student
- Agree to frequent two-way communication with the International Scholars Program coordinator
If you are interested in having a rewarding experience as a host family, please email Bryan Mattice, International Scholars Program coordinator, at bmattice@niskyschools.org for more information, or complete the host family application and return it to:
