Letter to parents about the Extended School Year special education summer program

Orientation for grades K-5 is Thursday, july 6

Dear Students and Families,

Hello! I am pleased to welcome you to the Niskayuna Extended School Year (ESY) Program. My name is Tanya Delamater and I am happy to be serving as the Summer School Principal and Coordinator. I received a dual Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. While teaching I received my Masters degree in Education Administration. I have taught in multiple diverse learning settings at South Colonie and Troy City School Districts for twelve years. I have always had a passion for creating enjoyable learning opportunities for all learners. This summer I embark on a wonderful journey at Niskayuna Central school District and look forward to working with all of you.

Extended School Year (ESY) services are designed to support a student with a disability as documented under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to maintain the academic, social/behavioral, communication, or other skills that they have learned as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP). This is something that was discussed at your IEP meeting and agreed upon by the CSE Committee.

Enclosed you will find an information sheet with pertinent information regarding dates, times, and other important information.

An ESY orientation for grades K-5 is scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Craig Elementary School from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. When you arrive at Craig Elementary School, please go directly to the cafeteria.

At orientation, I will introduce myself and introduce you to our ESY staff. We will briefly review important information. After that, students and their families can take a brief tour of the building and go to their classrooms to meet the classroom teacher and support staff. I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren). We will have a fun and productive summer! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My e-mail is tdelamater@niskyschools.org

Sincerely,

Tanya Delamater
Principal and Coordinator
