Partnership between Booster Club and District

Nearly every Niskayuna athletic team and physical education classes have begun to benefit from significant improvements to the Niskayuna High School Fitness Center that have unfolded over the last year, including new treadmills, weight-lifting racks, fresh paint, and student art work announcing that the room is the "Home of the Silver Warriors."

When the 10 new Hammer Strength weight-lifting racks were delivered and installed in late May, it doubled the amount of the free weight-racks available to students. Three new treadmills were also delivered at that time, complementing the three new units that were added last year.

The upgrades total more than $100,000, which was funded jointly between the distric's equipment budget and the Niskayuna Athletic Booster Club. Prior to the improvements, the equipment in the fitness center dated back to when it first opened 13 years ago.

In the coming year, the elliptical machines will be replaced.

Athletic Director Larry Gillooley said that 20 physical education classes use the room every week and almost every athletic team trains there at some point during the season.

The new "Home of the Silver Warriors" lettering was painted by Rebecca Piascik, a member of the Niskayuna High School Class of 2016.

Thanks to Rebecca for her work and to the Booster Club for its ongoing support of Niskayuna students!
