School held its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Friday, May 27,
bringing generations together again to remember the lives of
three Niskayuna High School graduates killed in Vietnam and to
honor local veterans and the members of this year's graduating
class who are entering military service.
The high school holds the ceremony with the former VFW Lt. Vernon F. Hovey III Post in Niskayuna. Lt. Hovey III of the Class of 1964, Lt. Robert S. Cragin Jr. of the class of 1962, and Pfc. Richard W. Starkey of the class of 1965, who died in Vietnam, were remembered with a memorial wreath-laying. Members of the classes of 1962, 1964 and 1965 will be present to pay tribute to their fallen classmate.
This event has always connected generations in their commitment and service to our nation. It recognizes the service of many local veterans from past wars who will be in attendance. As in past years, High School Principal, John Rickert, will individually recognize the members of this year's senior class who will be entering a branch of the military upon graduation.
This is the 24th year that the high school and the VFW post have held the Memorial Day ceremony.
