The Niskayuna High School pool will be closed longer than usual this summer
to accommodate routine cleaning and necessary work on the grout to ensure the
pool continues to be a well-maintained community resource. It will be closed
from June 27 to August 15.
Some of the grout around the tiles is deteriorating, which leads to water loss and impacts on the filter system and vacuums.
The entire pool needs to be drained, completely dried, and then re-filled and heated in order to accomplish the grout repairs and reopen for use. After the grout work, the annual cleaning of the pool area will also be accomplished.
While this closure will have some effects on regular users and programs, the work is needed to ensure the pool continues to be a safe and well-functioning for school programs, students and the community. This will be the most significant work on the grout since the pool opened 13 years ago.
The district has communicated this information to the Town of Niskayuna and the Starfish swim club.
The timeline calls for the pool to re-open for practices and community use on Monday, August 15. The pool schedule will be posted on the district's website well in advance of that date.
