Dear Niskayuna Central School District Stakeholders:
I am seeking community volunteers interested in serving on a new Instructional Program Advisory Council that will play a major role in guiding the district into the future. The committee - known as IPAC - is a centerpiece of the strategic plan for the district developed by the Board of Education this year.
IPAC's initial charge is to establish a profile of a Niskayuna graduate, define a world-class educational experience, and define student and staff engagement in the context of the learning experience we want for our students. This will be exciting work.
The committee will be comprised of 25 individuals representing business, industry, and higher education, parents, residents, students, teachers, and administrators. Not all volunteers are likely to be chosen, given the limitation of the committee size and the need to ensure it contains a cross-section of the stakeholder groups outlined above. However, given the scope and importance of the work that IPAC will undertake, we also anticipate needing additional individuals to serve on subcommittees that are established.
It is my goal that together we can capture a spirit of excitement and progress that is akin to the founding of the district in the mid-1950s. The driving motivation of our district's founders was to establish a different kind of school district in Niskayuna, one that would be at the cutting-edge of education and that would put preparing students for the future and fostering a passion for learning above all else.
At that time, a citizens committee of as many as 400 members advocated for academic program and facility improvements to establish a strong foundation for the new district. In the same manner, IPAC will be reviewing and developing recommendations for program and capital improvements that will shape education in our community for generations to come.
You can read more about our plans for IPAC in an article recently published by The Daily Gazette, available at http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2016/mar/09/0309_niskyskul/?dgzrg.
IPAC will hold its first meeting in April 2016. Participation will initially require one meeting per month, with the potential for small group meetings, subcommittee work, and e-mail discussions in-between meetings.
If you are interested in serving on the Instructional Program Advisory Committee, please let me know by filling out the brief form available here by April 15, 2016.
If you have any questions about the committee, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (518) 377-4666 x50706.
This is an exciting time in Niskayuna Schools. We are actively engaged in shaping the future of our district and the very definition of a Niskayuna education. We have established a robust, participatory process to accomplish this work. I look forward to having many more stakeholders join this effort, and I thank you for your interest.
