3-D glasses will be provided...Please join us for the 'STEM into STEAM' art exhibit reception on Nov. 25

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The Niskayuna Central School District's initiative has brought together the content areas of science, art, mathematics, and technology to allow students to create HDR (High Dynamic Range) photographs, anaglyphic photographs and drawings, perspective drawings, as well as radial ceramic tile designs that incorporate those disciplines to create works of art.

Please join us for a reception celebrating the "STEM into STEAM: A Conduit in Creativity" exhibit that is on display in the Nisk-Art Gallery at Niskayuna High School on Monday, November 25, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The exhibition features work from The Engineering Institute for Young Women Summer Program, the High School Advanced Photography Class, and the High School "Tiles, Tessellation, and Technology" Art and Technology, Studio in Art and 3-D Computer Modeling Class Project.

Through this unique exhibition, viewers can explore how art is integral to innovation and how "STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)" education is enhanced through art. With art "STEM" education transforms into "STEAM," a model needed for our youth to move forward into the next century.

Learning through the arts promotes the idea that there is more than one solution to a problem, or more than one answer to a question. Experiences in the arts enhance critical thinking abilities and outcomes. Scientists and artists in this exhibition are connecting disciplines by using their knowledge and imagination, as well as creating new solutions and new ideas.

"STEM into STEAM: A Conduit in Creativity" will be on display at the Nisk-Art Gallery through January 21, 2014.
