On March 5, 127 seventh grade art students from Iroquois and Van Antwerp
Middle Schools attended a field trip to the Massachusetts Museum of
Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA).
There were three buses and 12 chaperones in attendance.
While on the trip, students spent approximately two and a half hours engaged with artwork on a guided docent tour by Jason Middlebrook, Izhar Patkin, and Sol Lewitt.
Activities and topics of discussion included meditating on sound instead of sight (Middlebrook), contemplating art created from other art (Middlebrook), interpretations of visual narratives (Patkin), and evaluating an artist's role of conception versus creation (Lewitt).
