A spectacular Saturday for Niskayuna Science Bowl teams

The Niskayuna High School and Iroquois and Van Antwerp Science Bowl teams all posted impressive showings in the regional competition on Saturday, March 1. Van Antwerp is preparing for a return to trip to the national competition in Washington D.C. in late April, while Iroquois and the high school teams are each celebrating second place finishes.

The competitions were held at GE Global Research.

Van Antwerp and Iroquois faced each other in an exciting final match for the regional championship that wasn't decided until the end. "We admire their accomplishment while we celebrate our awesome second place finish," Iroquois coach and science teacher Monica Judd said.

The Van Antwerp team was undefeated throughout the daylong competition. Coach Karen Postlethwait noted that the team faced an equally talented Iroquois team. They are looking forward to traveling to the nation's capital to face regional champions from around the country.

In high school action, Niskayuna made it to the finals by defeating Albany Academy in the Quarterfinals, and Saratoga in a Semifinal match that was decided in a tension-filled tie-breaker. However, they could not get past a talented group from Shenendehowa.

"It was an amazing odyssey," said Coach Paul Scott. "Everyone contributed. They were truly a team. It was a pleasure to watch them."

The teams are listed and pictured below. Congratulations to all of the students and their coaches on their accomplishments!
