A newly redesigned and reorganized www.niskayunaschools.org is now live.

The site has a completely new design - for for all district and school pages. The previous site was about 10 years old, and district leaders are excited to provide an updated and modernized place for parents, students, and community members to locate information about the district - anytime, anywhere.

"Our community has come to rely on our website as a major source of information," Superintendent Susan Kay Salvaggio said. "We believe not just this new look, but a fresh approach to the presentation and organization of the site will help our community find the information it wants and needs. It will also be a place that celebrates our students and schools and their achievements."

The new site relies much more heavily on photos than the previous site, including a homepage photo array that will change at various points throughout the year.

Another major change, which can be seen in the first screenshot on this page, is that most information in the site is categorized by six major topics: About Us, Academics, Board of Education, Student Services, Athletics, and Community. Clicking on any of those links across the top of the site will allow visitors to access the more detailed sub-pages for each. (Example: For School Health Services, simply click on Student Services.)

And, if visitors can't find what they are looking for there, they can simply scroll down: The bottom of every page on the site features an index for each of the major sections. (Scroll down to the shaded gray box at the bottom of any page).

Another significant change is that all school pages will have a consistent design and organization. This is expected to help parents know where to look to find particular information and to keep visitors connected to the overall district site as they navigate between school and district pages.

The site will contain many of the features that the Niskayuna school community has come to expect and rely on, including:

Academics - Find information about curriculum, information by academic department, and such  documents as the Niskayuna High School Profile and Program of Studies.

Calendar - The new website uses Google's free calendar feature, enabling the district to add or change dates at any time. The calendar dates on each school's individual page will show districtwide events and events for that school.

Budget - Comprehensive school budget information, including information about the current year's budget, voting, and timely budget development documents.

Board of Education - The site will continue to feature information about Board members and how to contact them, a meeting schedule, and agendas and minutes.

Forms and documents - This includes everything from past district newsletters to health forms to Codes of Conduct and athletic forms. On the website, they are all in one place.

Athletics - This includes a list of teams, participation information, and a link to the new scheduling system.

Community - Several aspects of the current site were combined into a new category, "Community," which includes links to PTOs and parent groups, swimming pool information, town websites and other community organizations like N-CAP and the Niskayuna Community Foundation, and alumni information. The site will continue to incorporate an alumni database feature.

"The goal of this new website is to be the best way for students, parents and community members to stay connected to the district and find the information they need at any given moment," Salvaggio said. "Communications is essential to our district. We are excited to be providing this communications tool to our community."

The new site was under development for the past 18 months, and was produced in partnership with the Capital Region BOCES Communications Service.
