The Niskayuna Central School District conducted the search for a superintendent of schools during the 2014-15 school year. The search process was coordinated by Capital Region BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Charles Dedrick. The Board of Education and Dr. Dedrick established a comprehensive timeline for the search, which incorporate feedback from school district stakeholders.

 

April 14, 2015

Board of Education names Dr. Cosimo Tangorra Jr. as superintendent

At its meeting on April 14, the Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint current New York State Deputy Education Commissioner Dr. Cosimo Tangorra Jr. as the district's next superintendent. The appointment followed an extensive search that included substantial community input, interviews with three finalists conducted by stakeholder teams, and a day-long visit to the district by Dr. Tangorra.   • October 21: Board meeting with search consultants
  • November 7: First draft of brochure/application form to Board
  • November 10: Online survey begins
  • November 12: Community stakeholder feedback forums, 4 p.m. at Niskayuna High School Library and 7 p.m. at Niskayuna Town Hall
  • November 12: Board responds to first draft brochure with suggestions
  • November 14: Second draft of brochure/application distributed to Board
  • November 19: Board responds with final changes to brochure/application
  • November 20: Community stakeholder feedback forums: 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. in Van Antwerp Middle School auditorium
  • November 20: Board begins to identify community stakeholders for March interviews
  • November 24: Brochure/application posted on website and distributed
  • December 10: Online survey ends
  • December 16: Interim report at Board meeting by search consultants
  • January 15: Student Forum, Niskayuna High School Library Media Center, 3 p.m.
  • February 2: Application due date (postmark)
  • February 12: Board chooses candidate(s) for interviews
  • Stakeholders to participate in interviews identified
  • February 23: Interviews with the Board
  • March 2: Interviews with the Board
