A group of parents educators, students and administrators working collaboratively with the purpose of creating a school culture that embraces, by greater understanding, the learning needs of individuals with all abilities.
Best Buddies is a friendship club for disabled and non-disabled peers. It is a way to enjoy each other's company through email, phone calls, in the halls, at lunch, and during meetings. Iroquois Middle School (contact: Laura Carroll), Van Antwerp Middle School (contact: Kevin McFerran) and Niskayuna High School (contact: Fred Ebert) all participate in Best Buddies. The Friday Knights Family Support and Recreation Program is a program coordinated by students at the College of St. Rose that is designed to help autistic children and teens develop social skills through recreation. View a video clip of the program that was broadcast on NBC's Today Show.
